ARNOLD'S FAVORITE BREAKFAST IS HERE AGAIN!!
This dish is one of Arnold's favorite things to eat. We'll be serving it again here at Juergens from Saturday February 15th through Sunday March 2nd in honor of the Arnold Classic!
Come down to Juergens in German Village and EAT LIKE AHHHH-NOLD!!!
Kaiserschmarrn or Kaiserschmarren is a refined variant of the Schmarrn, a scratched pancake, which has its name from the Austrian emperor Kaiser Franz Joseph I of Austria, who was very fond of this kind of fluffy scratched pancake. It is a popular meal or dessert in Austria, South Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic and northern Croatia.
The name Kaiserschmarrn means Schmarrn (scratched pancake) of the Kaiser(emperor), whereby Schmarrn has also get the meaning of "folly". Therefore Kaiser Franz Joseph´s love for this kind of fluffy scratched pancake was his "folly". The German word schmarren is related to scharren (to scrab) and schmieren (to smear) and means scratching, dissecting, smearing. In relation to the love of the emperor for this kind of pancake the word "Schmarrn" has also come to mean folly, trifle, mishmash, mess and nonsense (the favorite use of the word here at Juergens!!) in Austria and Bavaria.
Kaiserschmarrn can be eaten like a dessert, OR it can also be eaten for Breakfast and Lunch at tourist places like mountainside restaurants and taverns in the Austrian Alps -- as well as here at Juergens!!
For many years now, Juergens has been serving this Special Dish during the Arnold Classic in honor of our favorite Austrian and we are the first in Columbus to do so! Stop in and have the "Arnold Classic"!!
(don't forget, Juergens is Open Tuesday thru Sunday but Closed Mondays - danke!)
